Sawdust Magazine Ad

When I went to the Sawdust Art Festival web page, I immediately knew I wanted to use the colors on the home page – pink, green, and tan. They were bright, fun, and attention-grabbing. I used a gradient with three of the colors from the home page, adhering to the green theme present. In conjunction with this, I wanted to make my main visual element a tree. The vibe I got from the Sawdust page was of an earthy arts festival centered in nature. I used the basic feather and gradient effects to fade the tree into the background, so I would not overpower the rest of the ad. I stuck to using 3 fonts so the piece did not become too busy, and spaced the text out so it was not cramped. Additionally, I wanted to make the main points of the ad (demonstrations, hands-on projects, cafes, and entertainment) stand out to grab the viewer’s attention. To bring the main attractions to life, I found pictures online and placed them next to it, fading the outside with more basic feather effects and increasing the opacity. I made sure that all of my text and images lined up in an aesthetically pleasing way. To eliminate a boxy appearance, I typed the title of the ad on a circular path and placed it in the top left corner. I believe that I achieved an ad that is not too busy or stressful to read. I used playful colors and careful alignment to make an ad sure to draw patrons to the festival!
